A true classic. If you like the texture of Guinness this might be as close as you're gonna get. Don't confuse texture with flavour though, because the two are not at all similar, but if you want an ultra smooth and mild tasting stout then Mill Street Cobblestone Stout will fit the bill perfectly.
The mouthfeel is a little thinner than some stouts, but it matters not, as this beer covers the bases in most other categories. Smells delicious, the head lasts almost until the beer is done, smooth drinkability, subtle flavouring, and no unpleasant aftertaste. What the hell else could you want in a beer. The aroma is pure roasted malt, with all the usual suspects of stout-smells showing up: chocolate, espresso, vanilla, and burnt breads. The taste follows these same lines, and everything has that nice roasted taste to it, with milk and dark chocolate flavours up front and the middle, giving way to some espresso and vanilla tones in the finish, which is quite dry and shows just a tinge of bitterness. Everything about this beer is quite subtle, which is a welcome change from all of the flavoured and imperial stouts out there right now, and I consider this one of the better stouts in Ontario. However, for those who like heavily flavoured and adventurous stouts and porters you might find this one a little bland.
Cobblestone Stout plays year round, warm or cold. Probably Mill Street's finest offering, so if I can't convince you to try this one than I have failed miserably at my job. Again. Having said that, I'll probably never buy any Mill St. products ever again. There's enough good craft stouts that I'd rather give my money to.
