I have to admit that I'm kind of happy to see this beer on the shelves of the LCBO. The Hobgoblin series of beers have been around for a while, buy I've never really been on board, choosing instead to support local breweries. However, with such a limited selection of good red and dark ales, especially in the summer, Hobgoblin Ruby will probably find itself into my rotation every now and again.
The reason is simple. It's a solid and straighforward dark ale, which as I said earlier, is sorely lacking in the local summer beer scene. As for a the review of this beer, well, like the beer itself it's nothing fancy. Hobgoblin Ruby is a very simple dark ale, mostly showing the characteristics of a traditional red ale except with more sweetness than bitterness on the back end.
