I'm confirming at this moment that I don't drink radlers. I don't think that they're horrible or anything, I just don't think that they taste like beer, especially all of the new ones which have just popped up this year in a borderline desperate attempt to get on the radler bandwagon. Which brings us to KLB Raspberry Wheat Beer from Amsterdam Brewery, which has been around for a long time. If you want something that tastes like juice, or a vodka cooler, by all means pick up a radler. They're undeniably tasty and so low in alcohol that can drink 10 and still operate heavy equipment. However, if you want a refreshing beer with a hint of fruit taste, pick up a KLB Raspberry Wheat Beer (or a St. Ambroise Apricot Wheat Ale).
I remember this beer from years ago, but recently picked one up for the first time in a long time as a Friday post-work beverage. I have to admit that I've forgotten how good this beer is. The reason it's so damn good is that it has a nice conspicuous raspberry flavour, but unlike a radler, it still tastes like beer. The wheat ale base is entirely intact here, presenting a smooth, full-bodied beer-tasting beer. The raspberry flavouring isn't exactly subtle, but it certainly doesn't dominate the malty goodness that a beer-lover desires. The result is a ridiculously refreshing and sessionable beer that goes down really easy and tastes really great. I'd love to call this beer "the radler killer" but I don't think anything can stop the radler train at this point. However, if you've recently been sucked into the radler craze you should really give KLB Raspberry Wheat Beer a try. For my money, it totally kicks the ass of any radler out there.
