It's always a rare treat whent the LCBO randomly carries any beer by legendary American brewer Rogue Ales.  Why, you may ask?  Because their beer is usually right fucking epic.  From traditional straightforward styles like Dead Guy Ale, to uber-adventurous craft beer snobbery like their Voodoo Doughnut series, everything they brew is well worth the price of admission and then some.  Which brings us to Hazelnut Brown Nectar, a flavoured brown ale, lying somewhere between straightforward and snobbery, and bringing the noise like a goddamn champ.
Hazelnut Brown Nectar is just a really enjoyable specialty beer.  If Ron Burgundy were to drink a bottle, he would want to shout out his approval from a mountain-top, and quite frankly so do I.  This beer screams to be consumed following Thanksgiving dinner after posting up on a Lazy-Boy and shooting the shit with friends and family.  And if you don't know what that tastes like, I'll try to break it down for you.  Beautiful chestnut-brown colour, inviting and bubbly beige head, and seriously potent aromas of hazelnut and sweet, sweet victory.  On the palate, pure dark malts all the way through with a hyper-conspicuous but continuously pleasant nuttiness dominating a slightly sweet background that cuts through any extra bitterness that may want to appear.  It has those classic earthy undertones and the dry bitter back-end of a traditional brown ale, but that nutty sweetness steals the day.  Nothing is too overpowering though, and a really nice balance highlights the whole package.  Hazelnut Brown Nectar doesn't thin out at any point, and really maintains a nice and consistantly smooth body from start to finish, topping off a powerful but pleasant drinking experience.  As it warms up, the hazelnut flavour seperates itself even more, and the back end of every sip is like a goddamn Ferraro Rocher on the tip of your tongue.  Seriously, I'm not making this shit up, so if you see a bottle my recommendation is that you purchase it, drink it, and thank me in the form of a well constructed and thoughtful e-mail.  Your welcome.
